From President Brian Murphy

Dance lessons will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Crowne Plaza. Beginners will meet at 6 p.m., and they will learn the start, basic, female turn, male turn, side-pass, pivot, and belly roll. We will return to the six-week format, and Brian and Gail Murphy will teach this class.

Intermediates will meet at 6:45 p.m. and will be taught the front prep, double kickback, rear sailor’s shuffle, walkup, change hands pivot, “the armbreaker” and the change hands female turn. John Holstein and Ellie Merola will teach this class.

The advanced class will be taught by various club members and will meet at 7:30 p.m. Each new step will be taught for two consecutive weeks, and the steps will be at the pleasure of the instructors.

New members should come a little early to take care of the necessary paperwork.

Winter Classic ticket sales will be in September. HHI Shag Club members will be seated in tables of 12 this year, and cost is $60 each. (The reason for the increase is the increase in the Thursday night party and the costs of the weekend party.)

Members who do not want to buy a table will simply be assigned a table with other HHI shaggers. If you wish to buy a table, we will need $720 and the names of all the people at the table (so we can have materials for them at the registration desk.)

Do not put this off. Winter Classic sold out in a little over 3 weeks last year, and we will not sell over 450 tickets. So if you’re going to buy a table, start collecting the checks.

The Classic this year is on January 4, 5, and 6. The kick-off party is on Thursday night, January 3.

Thanks to Vince and Fran Bollino for attending the ACSC summer workshop in Augusta for us. We will have news of that meeting for you soon.

Pat and Marty Hughes are still recovering from their respective surgeries. Keep them in your thoughts.

Don’t forget to talk up John FM (104.9) with local businesses. We want to do all we can to support this station. They do play some amazing music.

Check out shagtour.com if you haven’t. It’s a new look at the shag world. By the way, they carry, among other things, the top 100 shag songs.
